The alpine sunflower, called Old Man of the Mountain and found high in the mountains, is said to face east all day. Research over the past few years indicates that this flower grows for twelve to fifteen years without flowering. Once it does flower, it dies. It is one of my favorite wildflowers. Field Crescent Butterflies seem to like them too.
