Mr. Watkins, being weary of his life as a city planner in Colorado, and having learned about photography and writing to some minor extent, undertook to travel abroad in the world and to record what he found in unusual places.
Not long after reaching the ridge of the continental divide, I came across a large herd of elk. There were females, calves, and juvenile males. Although they watched me warily, they did not seem overly concerned by me, and I hiked through the herd.
